Job Title: Subject Pathway Lead
Reports to: TBC
Job Purpose: To provide subject leadership, taking responsibility for resources and teaching standards in area of specialism

Main Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Being the Law School subject matter expert in area of specialism, which will include an underpinning law and practice subject
  • Taking responsibility for the development and ongoing improvement of teaching and learning resources in area of specialism
  • Assist the Head of Teaching, Learning and Development in developing and implementing the teaching and learning strategy, identifying areas of best practice and driving improvements in the quality of teaching delivery
  • Ensuring that Law School courses remain current, relevant and engaging in area of specialism
  • Monitoring feedback on the learner experience in area of specialism and acting on areas for improvement
  • Taking responsibility for Law School learner engagement at subject and pathway level in area of specialism
  • Taking responsibility for Law School success rates in area of specialism, identifying and acting on areas for improvement
  • Contributing to the delivery of Law School courses including:
  1. Onboarding of learners
  2. Delivering group teaching sessions and masterclasses via webinar, checking and supporting learning and the practical application of skills
  3. Assessing learners’ formative work, providing detailed feedback on all areas of strength and identifying areas for development
  4. Providing academic support by conference call, email or online forum
  5. Undertaking progress reviews with learners/supervisors at appropriate milestones throughout their course, setting development objectives
  6. Adapting delivery plans, formative exercises and delivering feedback in line with learners’ preferences
  7. Supporting learners in their preparation for assessments, including, where appropriate, interview and portfolio preparation
  8. Delivering revision sessions by webinar and/or face to face
  • Line managing designated pathway specialists and freelance tutors, driving progress against key performance indicators
  • Taking responsibility for standardisation of teaching and learning in area of specialism to ensure that quality assurance processes are met to internal and external standards
  • Contributing to the Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improving Plan, taking responsibility for meeting performance targets in area of specialism
  • Maintaining relevant documentation to ensure internal and external audit readiness in relation to area of specialism, and play an active role during the inspection process
  • Keeping abreast of changes in law in area of specialism and of relevant pedagogic methodologies
  • Leading on staff development and knowledge sharing in area of specialism
  • Updating CILEx internal and external stakeholders on developments in area of specialism
  • Contributing to internal and external marketing and business development activities

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Chartered Legal Executive, solicitor or barrister
  • Significant experience in designated practice area
  • Prior teaching/training experience
  • Experience of creating learning materials
  • Knowledge and understanding of competence qualifications and apprenticeships

Desirable Experience

  • Prior experience of delivering training in a distance learning context
  • A recognised teaching or coaching qualification

  • Willingness to work up to two evenings a week and occasional weekends (time off in lieu will be given)
