The University of Fribourg places scientific research that is closely linked to academic teaching at the heart of its activities. With an array of centres of scientific excellence as well as research programmes across the entire disciplinary spectrum, we aim to extend the frontiers of scientific knowledge to help solve mankind’s current and future challenges.

The disciplinary research domains match the five university schools. These are the Faculties of Theology, of Law, of Economic and Social Sciences, of Humanities, and of Science. Interdisciplinary research is flourishing in areas ranging from European Studies, to Ethics & Human Rights, and to Environmental Sciences. In addition, the university's dedication to new research fields, such as Nanoscience, Competitiveness and Multilingualism, keeps the researchers of the University of Fribourg constantly striving to break new ground.
The Research Promotion Service assist the researchers in applying for funding from a wide range of possibilities, and we of course welcome SNSF professors, Marie-Curie fellows and ERC grantees.
