Ph.D. Position in AI/ML-based Mobile Cognitive Context Sensing Systems
PhD research on intersection of mobile computing systems and machine learning to address fundamental challenges in developing efficient cognitive context sensing systems using eye-tracking
Current advances in mobile systems and machine learning are making eye-tracking on the verge of becoming pervasive. Indeed, eye-tracking has shown great potential to enable a new genre of cognition context sensing systems with great societal impacts. For instance, in the healthcare domain, eye tracking can be used to monitor the physical and psychological well-being, such as Alzheimer’s disease, bipolar disorder, and Autism. In the context of industrial maintenance and training, eye tracking can be coupled with AR/VR systems to monitor the user’s “brainpower”.
In this project, we are seeking a highly motivated candidate to work on the intersection of mobile computing systems and machine learning to address the fundamental challenges in developing efficient cognitive context sensing systems using eye-tracking. Specifically, the candidate will contribute towards the following directions:
- Developing solutions to achieve pervasive and robust eye-tracking and cognitive context sensing systems for ``in the wild’’ scenarios.
- Designing innovative eye-tracking-based ``killer apps’’ that can address societal needs in precision healthcare.
- Developing edge computing and federated learning-based framework to tackle challenges in both system efficiency and data privacy
Major requirements for this position are:
- The applicant should hold a Master’s degree with excellent marks in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Demonstrated skill or experience in the following areas will be considered as an advantage: (1) design and programming for mobile or embedded systems, (2) deep learning and associated framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras), (3) signal processing for time-series and image data, (4) edge and distributed computing.
- Strong passion for researching mobile computing systems and machine learning.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Successful candidate is expected to be a team player.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Fixed-term contract: 4 jaar.
TU Delft offers PhD-candidates a 4-year contract, with an official go/no go progress assessment after one year. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2395 per month in the first year to € 3061 in the fourth year.
